Protected Designation of Origin: Duché d'Uzès

By keeping volumes in check and perfecting quality, the men and women within the appellation have successfully maximised the potential of a bountiful vineyard location by injecting their character and pride into their work. In 1991, the Duché d'Uzès producers’ organisation was created. In the 2000s, Duché d’Uzès applied to INAO for VDQS status (Vins Délimité de Qualité Supérieure), which precedes appellation status.

A collective effort spanning several years in conjunction with INAO representatives in Montpellier and Avignon thus enabled vineyard sites to be demarcated and Duché d’Uzès wines to secure their own identity. The production area was scaled back from 130 localities to 77.

In 2009, the National INAO Committee approved the principle of direct accession to AOC status by appointing a board of inquiry. On 29 June 2012, INAO responded favourably.
